Résumé

The book offers concise and essential coverage of the science and engineering of ship hydrodynamics and has been developed for pragmatically inclined readers. Applications are presented of several types of ships, from merchant and military ships, from high speed craft to sailing boats, green ships and ice breakers, from FPSO to hybrid ships like such as in ground effect craft. The present work brings out findings not only in the main topics of ship hydrodynamics but also in such related topics as ship control and marine robotics exemplified by autonomous surface vehicles, autonomous underwater vehicles and their avatars like robotic fishes.
The work includes also the latest developments of numerical methods.

À propos des auteurs

Alumnus of Ecole polytechnique, Jean-Claude Dern has a background in applied research in the civilian and military marine engineering especially at the DGA. He was Director of a large naval hydrodynamics laboratory and participated in several international working groups in various fields of ship hydrodynamics including the ITTC. Alongside his activities, he was lecturing at several schools of engineering.
Alumnus of Ecole polytechnique, Jean-Marc Quenez has a background in applied research in the civilian and military marine engineering especially at the DGA. He worked successively at Bassin d'essais des carènes (DGA/TH) in the field of Naval Ships hydrodynamics, at DCNS in submarine hydrodynamics more specifically applied to the French attack submarine Barracuda program and at GazTransport&Technigaz in developing new insulation containment systems for Methane Carriers.
He is currently working at the DGA in the field of missiles. Professor Philip Wilson of the University of Southampton has been active in the research of seakeeping and ship manoeuvring for more than 40 years thus the majority of his work has involved Marine Hydrodynamics. He has supervised 40 doctoral students in these fields of research.
