Résumé

'It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.' And it is this search for husbands and wives that defines this romantic comedy of manners. This tale of love and weddings unfolds against the background of class politics in late 18th-century England. The five Bennet sisters include the lovely Jane, the feisty and strongwilled Elizabeth, bookish Mary and airy and frivolous Kitty and Lydia.
Their mother has raised her girls with one purpose in life: finding a husband. And when Mr Bingley and Mr Darcy arrive at the neighbouring mansion, Netherfield Hall, things look like they are just about to fall in place. However, pride and prejudice throw a spanner in the works and the lovers turn into sworn enemies. Join in the merriment, drama and romance of one of the most popular classics of all time.

Jane Austen

Biographie de Jane Austen

Jane Austen (1775-1817) was an English novelist whose novels continue to be read, re-read and adapted widely. She has earned a place as one of the most widely read writers in English literature and her novels have been included in syllabi across the world. Her realistic style, social commentary and understanding of human relationships have made her works popular as well as timeless. Although she wrote prolifically during her lifetime, it was the genre of the novel that catapulted her into the literary hall of fame.
Her most famous works include Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813) Mansfield Park (1814), Emma (1815) Northanger Abbey (1818) and Persuasion (1818).
