Résumé

'It is not that I do not want to see a classically beautiful man or woman. It is more that the classical version of beauty benefits from our eyes being opened to other options.' Guido is credited with radically changing the way men and women think about their hair through the expressive styles he has been creating for fashion designers and photographers since the early 1990s. This is his first book, a sequence of over 70 head-shots taken during the last decade by leading photographers David Sims, Steven Klein and Paul Wetherell. The images, many of which are previously unpublished, convey raw energy and individual attitude. Each head of hair, whether familiar or unknown, speaks powerfully for itself. But there is an underlying unity to the images through Guido's approach to beauty as a variable that we can, and should, define for ourselves. In a brief foreword he delineates the ideas which have inspired him to create work now recognized as the most inventive in its field and mould-breaking in far wider terms.

À propos de l'auteur

Biographie de Guido Palau

Guido Palau grew up in an Anglo-Spanish family in Dorset, England. After travelling around Europe he moved to London and worked in numerous hair salons before discovering his passion was session hairdressing for photographic shoots and fashion shows. In the early 1990s his radically expressive style first became known worldwide through work with David Sims and for American designer Calvin Klein. A decade later he is widely considered as one of the world's most inventive conceptual stylists. He still works for Klein but also for many other designers on both sides of the Atlantic, among them Alexander McQueen in London and Versace in Italy. Apart from fashion shows, his work is widely known from campaign images and magazine editorial work ranging from Harper's Bazaar to iD. Guido lives in London, but divides his work-year between England and the United States.
