Résumé

The Basque Country's unique culture, cuisine, language and history combine to create a place of true intrigue. Soak up the sun on San Sebastián's beaches, surf the waves in Biarritz or marvel at the festivals that decorate the region's calendar. Basque delights spill over into neighbouring Navarre, most famous for the bull-running bravado of Pamplona, but also offering diverse landscapes of Pyrenean peaks and southern sun-blasted desert.
Fully updated for this second edition, Bradt's The Basque Country and Navarre remains the most comprehensive guide to the region. Murray Stewart offers in-depth insight into the Basque Autonomous Community, Navarre and the three French Basque 'provinces'. With extensive historical and cultural information, this book is the ideal companion for visitors looking to explore this vibrant and enigmatic corner of Europe.

À propos de l'auteur

Biographie de Stewart Murray

In 2009, with a new-found ambition to become a travel writer, Murray Stewart turned his back on a 20-year career in corporate restructuring that included receiving a House of Commons commendation for saving a Norfolk pea-processing factory. Drawing on visits to 56 countries, including periods teaching English in Chile and Mexico, as well as working as a consultant in Spain, he has since been published in national travel magazines as well as winning prizes for his online contributions.
He jumped at the opportunity to write the Bradt guide to the Basque Country, an enigmatic region that for years had captured his interest. A self-confessed part-time `pilgrim ; Murray has walked the Camino de Santiago three times, raising thousands of pounds for charity in the process. He speaks French, Spanish and German. And thanks to this guide, he now talks a few words of Basque, too.
