Résumé

Written for nonspecialists ? " Ultimate Zero and One " take the reader on a guided tour of the current developments in quantum computers, revealing fascinating capabilities of these hypothetical machines. Some highlights include : the quantum physics behind quantum computing ; breaking supposedly "unbreakable" codes ; communicating with messages that reveal eavesdropping ; teleporting quantum information to reach decisions at lightning speed ; finding needles in quantum "haystacks" ; revealing "truth" without "proof" ; simulating systems so complex they cannot even be described to a classical computer ; descriptions of first-generation quantum computers ; computing without computing ! From code breaking, to code making, and to the use of quantum mechanics to carry out true teleportation, the spin-offs from quantum computing are destined to revolutionize technology in the twenty-first century. This book explains the key ideas that will allow you to glimpse this quantum future.
