Introduced species, also known as alien or exotic species, are a proven means to increase production and value from aquatic ecosystems. They are also recognized as a significant threat to aquatic biodiversity. Resource managers, the fishery and aquaculture sectors and policy-makers must balance the benefits versus the risks of using introduced species, accurate information is essential. This CD-ROM contains a variety of information, including guidelines, codes of practice, international instruments, publications and considerations that will facilitate responsible use and control of introduces species.
A main feature is the Database on Introduction of Aquatic Species (DIAS) that contains over 5 000 records of international introductions of aquatic species. System requirements (including database installation) : Windows®95/98/NT2000/XP, browser Internet Explorer® 4. 0+, Netscape® Navigator® 4. 0+, or equivalent, RAM : preferably over 128MB, Free disc space : 60MB.
