Murilo is invited to stay with his neighbors, André and Vitória, after he doesn't remember what happened to his family. The next day, they ride foals to visit Murilo's uncle, Zé, who invites him to help pick peppers. Zé agrees to take Murilo to his parents' house the following day. The next morning, they ride a mule to the city, where they attend a wake for the victims of "The massacre of the Serranos lands." Murilo learns that his family was among the victims, and now his only family is his uncle.
The case became known as a controversial topic, and even a local newspaper reported it, but eventually closed down.
