Résumé

The year is 1938. Yaël and her sister Émilie are two ordinary children growing up in a village in the south of France. But even if they don't understand everything they see, they are starting to catch glimpses of the secrets that adults struggle to keep. Who is hiding behind the curtain in the guest room? Why does their maternal grandfather call their father a "goy"? What does it mean to be Jewish? As Yaël grows up, she is caught up in the harsh realities of the war and the antisemitic laws of Vichy France.
Her path to understanding her identity will be a painful one.

À propos des auteurs

Sara was born in Milan in 1998. She has always dreamed of becoming a children's book author. She studied illustration at the IED in Milan and then went on to study comics at EESI in Angoulême for her master's degree. With this knowledge and training, she began working on her first comic book, "Derrière le rideau" (Dargaud, 2022; "Behind the Curtain" in English, Europe Comics), which evokes Anne Frank's diary. She was inspired by Barbara Yelin's comic book "Irmina, " in particular for the settings that are anchored in the same historical period, by Sempé and his "Petit Nicolas, " and by the colors used by Marie Muravski.
She considers the works of Cézanne and Toulouse-Lautrec as timeless models. For the texts, she drew inspiration from the works of Fred Uhlman, Teresa Radice, and Andrea Molesini with her book "La primavera del lupo" (The spring of the wolf). Sara was born in Milan in 1998.
