Later on, she became an Underground Railroad conductor, which became an opportunity for her to rescue slaves. After a  decade when her term as a conductor ended, she joined the Union Army as a nurse and a cook during the American Civil War. There, she met Nelson Davis, who became her second husband.
They were blessed with a peaceful and happy marriage.
