Résumé

A story of colonial New Zealand and the mystery girl who rose from the slums to become a force to be reckoned with. It is 1858 in boom town Dunedin. Dreamers and vagabonds are pouring into the new colony to seek their fortune in the province's goldfields. A newborn baby is found abandoned on the road. She finds acceptance in the notorious and close-knit back street community. But at six years old, the spirited Billie is faced with making her own way in the world of pubs and prostitutes, commerce and chance.
Why is the elegant gentleman so interested in Billie's sketchy past and future prospects? What does the Irish charmer want with a girl who detests him? This exciting saga twists and turns through some of New Zealand's historical events, with staunch pioneer characters strongly evoking Otago's gold fever days. From muddy city streets to wild-west shootouts, Southern Gold is a story of courage and survival.
And out of adversity, it is a story of enduring love. Book 1 in The Gold Series. Read the sequel Threads of Gold: Power and passion in a young country

Biographie de Jude Thomas

JUDE THOMAS BIOJude Thomas lives in New Zealand on the magical northern coast of Mangawhai. But she was born and raised in the southern city of Dunedin, where historical fiction Southern Gold is set. She also spent many summers in the Central Otago region where part of the story takes place and says she can still smell the wild thyme and feel the shimmering heat. But her lasting memory of a southern upbringing is the piercing winter and her intensely itchy chilblains.
Jude is a member of NZ Society of Authors (PEN NZ Inc) and the International Writers' Workshop NZ Inc. In 2015 she was awarded a grant through the NZ Society of Authors CompleteMS Programme. This has been invaluable to her in the writing of Southern Gold, her first full-length novel.  She is currently working on it's sequel.
