Résumé

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 The Spanish-American War was no surprise to Assistant Secretary of the Navy Theodore Roosevelt. For months, he had been doing everything in his power to make the navy ready for the great conflict he was certain was coming. He had no intention of observing the war from afar. #2 Roosevelt's war fever was caused by America's fever for war, or at least its long glorification of all things military.
The Civil War had erupted just three years after Roosevelt's birth in a New York City brownstone, and that conflict had exerted a strong influence on a young boy. #3 Roosevelt had always had something worth doing close to his mind. But it would take nine more years before he got another opportunity to do anything about it. In 1895, he wrote a letter to New York governor Levi P. Morton asking for a position in the Cuban force. #4 Roosevelt was a very competitive person, and he and Wood quickly became friends.
They would often test the limits of their bodies, and Roosevelt's asthma disappeared completely.
