No slave has ever escaped the Ostrakki. At least that's what they want you to believe. Since early childhood, Thane has been a slave. But when the savage Ostrakki princess selects him for herself, he is sure he will not survive her violent tendencies. He must escape. After his only friend has been taken from him by the princess, fear drives Thane to carry out their escape plans alone. And the only safe place he knows lies far to the west: the Kingdom. In this bows-and-arrows adventure story, fear follows fear as the terror of being hunted by dogs and men mingles with the dangers of the rugged wilderness through which he must journey. Along the way, Thane meets an unexpected friend, is captured by stunning beauty, and discovers hidden talents.
But life can dangle by a thread in these wild lands, and the princess is determined. Above all, his own insecurity and a pervasive sense of worthlessness threatens to overwhelm him. Will his new friend and his own recently discovered skills be enough? Can he find the courage and strength to escape through the teeth of danger even when he wants to give up?
