Résumé

You guys really are the axis of evil' our guide splutters over his stein of beer in the Pyongyang duck restauran. 'You're always lealing out of the windows and taking photographe when I tell you not to.' In a age of plastic knives on planes, Tony Wheeler can make the extraordinary claim of having visited all the rogue countries currently on newsreader's lips. Bad Lands is a witty first-hand account of his travaels through some of the most repressive and dangerous regimes in the world : Afghanistan, Albania, Burma, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea and Saudi Arabia.
Takink into account each country's attitude to human rights, terrorism and foreign policy, he asks 'what makes a country truly evil ?' and 'how bad is really bad ?' - all the while angaging with history and debunking popular myths. Written by the founder Lonely Planet, this fascinating account of life in these closed-off countries will appeal to anyone with an interest in the state of the world.

À propos de l'auteur

Biographie de Tony Wheeler

Tony Wheeler was born in England, but grew up in Pakistan, the West Indies and the USA and has kept on travelling ever since. A trek along Asia's " hippy trail " led him to write the very first Lonely Planet guidebook in 1973 and over the following years Tony has written or contributed substantially to more than 30 Lonely Planet titles. The New York Daily News has described Lonely Planet as `the specialists in guiding weird folks to weird places' and Tony's continued enthusiasm for the world's weirder corners took him to the nine countries which feature in this book.
