Résumé

There's much in the landscape of Tasmania that seems wild and strange, but nothing that compares to the McAllister women's tendency to come back to life after they've died. Levi and Charlotte's mother appears a week after she's been cremated, wandering across the Lawn of their estranged father's house. She promptly bursts into flames and turns into ash again, but the remaining scorch marks on the grass unsettle Charlotte.
Levi, imagining that Charlotte's upset is more about the fear that she too will one day come back from the dead, sets about crafting his perfectly healthy young sister a coffin, designed to keep her in the ground when the time comes. All it however, is scare Charlotte into running - away from her brother and her fate, and into the mighty, folkloric splendour of the natural world.
