A deeply affecting and hilarious novel about race, assimilation and popular culture. Willis Wu mostly gets to play Generic Asian Man. If he is lucky, sometimes he gets to be Background Oriental Making a Weird Face or even Disgraced Son. Every day, Wu leaves the single room in Chinatown where he lives, and makes his way to the Golden Palace restaurant, the set of a cop show that is in perpetual production.

Charles Yu's first novel, How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe, was a New York Times Notable Book and a Time magazine best book of the year. He was nominated for two Writers Guild of America Awards for his work on the HBO series, Westworld. His fiction and nonfiction have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Wired.
