Résumé
This picture book is an example of popular science literature, more precisely : an elementary introduction to the picture language of Petri nets, named in honour of the mat hematician/computer scientist Carl A. Petri, Bonn. Using Petri nets one can represent in a uniquely clear graphical way temporal procedures of any degree of complexity. There is a rich scientific literature on the theory of Petri nets, but in spite of good introductory text-books there is as yet no elementary pictorial access for the many practitioners who could certainly use Petri nets, if only they could be convinced of their usefulness. This gap between theory and practice is what a former professor of computer engineering is trying to bridge with this little book covering a multitude of applications fields.
