Résumé

American architecture has played a major role in the development of modernity in the second half of the twentieth century. Political conflict and war in Europe led many leading architects to move to America, where they found a fertile ground for developing new languages in an optimum ideological framework which was open and cosmopolitan. Today, architecture in both North and South America, with its complexity, the local flavour of each country or state and the reinterpretation of national tradition, is a varied and forceful source of inspiration for architects all over the world.
The present volume offers a careful selection of new housing projects by emerging architects in different countries of America, which provide an interesting panorama of languages and techniques applied to the rich and dynamic field of housing design.
