The Constitution for Europe and an Enlarging Union: Unity in Diversity?

This collection of essays brings together a selection of the many papers delivered at a young researcher seminar held in Warsaw in July 2004 with the funding and support of the European Commission. The collection provides a useful launchpad for further research and discussion on twelve topics of central importance to the Constitution and enlargement, at a time when the Union continues to extend its borders while at the same deepening its integration efforts and seeking new means to do so.
The book begins by considering the implications of formalizing European constitutionalism through the Constitution for Europe; looking at how the Constitution contributes to democracy, transparency and efficiency in the Union; exploring the role of the national parliaments under the Constitution; and examining the institutional changes and balance in the Union in an enlarged Union.
