The Friendly Ones is about two families. The Sharifullahs : making a new life in England, and unable to leave behind the traumas of war, their abandoned nation. The Spinsters : fractured by a series of disappointments and unexpressed failures. At a housewarming party, the shadow of death makes an unscheduled appearance amid the tables of samosas, pork pies and pasties. What brings the two families together is an act of automatic professional kindness.
A new England starts to be forged in encounters built on disagreement, fondness and unexpected respect. The Friendly Ones explores the sharing of histories, and the directions our lives take at the bidding of love.
