Résumé

The Wild World of Barney Bubbles celebrates a graphic design genius whose work linked the underground optimism of the 60s to the sardonic and manipulative art which accompanied punk's explosion. Barney Bubbles remains a powerful influence on contemporary artists four decades after his death. His work encompassed creating designs for homewares pioneer Sir Terence Conran, projecting psychedelic light shows at countercultural venues and art directing underground magazines Oz and Friends.
Bubbles also produced the remarkable run of record sleeves, posters and ephemera for such performers as Billy Bragg, Elvis Costello, Depeche Mode, Ian Dury, Hawkwind, The Damned and Nick Lowe. He also collaborated with artists and photographers such as Derek Boshier and Brian Griffin and created paintings, furniture, set designs and promo videos, not least the era-defining clip for The Specials' 80s hit "Ghost Town".
This revised edition of Paul Gorman's definitive monograph contains essays from Peter Saville and Billy Bragg, an interview with Art Chantry and hundreds of photographs, working sketches, notebooks and original artwork. It includes a new essay from American designer Clarita Hinojosa and an additional sixteen pages containing rare ephemera painstakingly collected by the author over the years and photographed for this book.
