As a participant in the fertile insurrection of artists at the renowned Judson Chruch, New York, in the 60s, Trisha Brown - one of the great figures of post-modern dance - underlook a dialogue with the arts that was to know no pause.
The choregrapher's graphic work gives this dialogue concrete form : these sketches are designed to record or transmit dances ; the working drawings that at a single stroke pin movement down and structure is spatially, precede or extend the actual choregraphy, sometimes taking its place or even surpassing it.
The sherr magic of a line shot through with serenely luminous vitality - and one whose utter rigorousness still leaves room for humour and the playful - makes Trisha Brown's choregraphic notation a guide to freedom.
