A Korean family in Japan
This masterfully done family saga follows a Korean family in Japan throughout four-generation.
The author first writes about their experience under Japanese colonization, and what it does to people's minds when no matter what you do you are seen as the worst kind of inferior.
Themes such as exile, identity, one's humanity, family ties as well as transmission are very much important throughout the story. This book had me, more than once in tears (thank God for the mask in the bus!). I was attached to every one of these characters and wanted the best for them even when I knew it would not happen.
Reading is helping me discover so many dark countries' histories.
A must read.
