Résumé

Although its name is famous, the story of La Ferme Saint Siméon in Honfleur is still relatively unknown. This book invites readers onto a new journey into the past of this mythical establishment and explores the two roles it played in the 19th century : as a Normandy refuge for landscape painting, and as a littoral extension for the literary circles of Paris. From Corot to Monet and from Courbet to Boudin, from Sapeck to Champsaur and from Allais to Proust, the rich and, in some case, never-before reproduced iconography found here, together with generous literary sources, unfold the history of this famous inn run by the renowned Mère Toutain, from the years 1825-30 to the dawn of the 20th century.
Many of the artworks reflecting this rich artistic past can be admired on the walls of La Ferme Saint-Siméon today.
